Yeah the Rover is better than the Shark Club, and it beats Time Out but do we really need to pay 4.50 for a bottle of beer? The Rover is at 111 Central Way in Kirkland if you don't already know about it. It is a large Irish pub with legitimate Irish owners. The only one more fresh off the boat than Billy (the owner) is his cousin Alex, who sounds like he has already had 15 shots of Jameson at 3 pm. All in all it is pretty great idea, legit bar in Down Town Kirkland with a patio and area for a band.
The place where they go wrong is that the Wilde Rover hires total d-bags for employees and cranks up the prices 30% more than any other place. Yeah you say this is like all other bars but I say bullshit. I am willing to pay the extra money for drinks if the bar has hot chics dancing on tables, or maybe some great gimmick like 100 beers on tap, but the Rover has really smelly bathrooms and pool tables that curve to the left ( looking towards the deck). They don't even have a drink happy hour, their only happy hour is like 1 hour a week discounting bar food. Nobody wants their sloppy, smelly curry fries for one dollar off (yeah CURRY, as in India) .
Not all the staff is bad there are actually a few great people, and the waitresses are great (good looking and very nice), but that doesn't justify the negative. The Rover being the best bar in Kirkland is like being the smartest kid in the special ed classes, you are still a retard. The Wilde Rover is a bit greedy, is ill run, and possibly in need a new HR guy.
Time and Place to Go:
Wednesday there is pub Quiz night, drinks are still spendy but at least it isn't too crowded. You can also make some money if you win, my buddies actually got second place one week and won like 70 bucks. Dan Purser Plays on Thursday nights, they are great and it is fun. As of now there is no cover for Dan Purser so at least you won’t have to pay to get in to the bar and over charged on drinks.

Grew up in Kirkland. Came back to go out and went to the Wilde Rover. Twice. The first visit, the waiter told us we should go to the time out because someone 'mentioned' a pitcher of beer. Total ass. The second time was for a party and the waitress literally got in my face and told me that I was offending her by going to the bar to get a beer. If it wasn't for the worthless waitstaff, I might be convinced to go back.
sexism, agism, prejudice and general nasty ranting comments accepted? wow, what a great ammendment that free speech thing was, huh?
nice blog.
I just moved here from Chicago and this is the first bar I went to in Washington. I walked in the door at 11:30p. I had to pay $5 bucks for a cover. The cover band [The Kennedy Brothers] wasn't too bad. They knew their range and played songs that everyone knew. I immediately went to the bar and got two stools up front so i would be noticed. Low and behold the bartenderS never even noticed me. I had my $20 sitting on the bar which usually indicates that I want service. People who were behind me got served before I did and didn't even have to wait in line. After 10 minutes the guy comes up to me and take my order. I told him that I was new and I wanted a good local wheat beer. He takes my money, pours a local beer [Mac & Jacks] and sets a wheat beer next to it and comes back with $11 dollars change. I asked for one beer, got two and had to pay 4.50 for a draft beer. What horrible service, so I tipped him a dollar. The next time I go to the bar it's 12:45p and I go to another part where I didn't have to deal with such a slow and inattentive bartender. Low and behold this bartender was the same thing, slow and inattentive serving everyone behind me before even looking at me. After 20 minutes (1:05a) of me sitting there the lights around the bar start to illuminate. The bartender comes up to me and asks me what I want. Again, I tell her that I want a good local wheat beer. She informs me that the lights have come on and they only serve shots after 1am. WHAT!!! Who does that? So I leave, never to come back again. I will say this though, the bouncers were the nicest people I've met in this city so far. So unless your okay with horrible service, just try someplace else.
I used to be a huge fan... but then i got sexually harassed on the dance floor, verbally abused by the bartender, and "choke shoved" by an angry pregnant lady (all in one night)...... I think it will be some time before i return.
